A boom barrier is also known as a bar, boom gate or pole pivoted to allow the boom to block through vehicular access through a great controlled point. In this, typically the tip of the boom gate rises in a vertical arc that is in a nearly vertical position. Boom gates are often counterweighted, so that pole is easily tipped. Boom gates have also paired either end to end and offset appropriately to block the traffic in both directions. Some boom gates having a second arm which hangs 300 to 400mm to increase approach visibility and below the upper arm when lowered to increase approach visibility and which hanging on links so it lies flat with the main boom as the barrier is raised.
